Education and child protection

Transforming learning across North Eastern Kenya.

The challenge

North Eastern counties have low access to schooling. Nomadic livelihoods, drought, poverty, clan conflict, insecurity and poor teacher-pupil ratios keep many children out of class. Cultural barriers also block girl-child education.

Our response

  • Teacher training in pedagogy, competency-based approaches and play-based, child-centred learning
  • Coaching and mentorship, and school cluster support sessions
  • Teaching and learning materials for schools
  • Support to two teacher training colleges
  • Peace Education Network and enrolment drives
  • A focus on girls and learners with special needs
